Resident Publication – Dr. Rebecca Ronsley

Dr. Ronsely and colleagues were published in The Canadian Journal of Psychiatry for their article Increased Risk of Obesity and Metabolic Dysregulation Following 12 Months of Second-Generation Antipsychotic Treatment in Children: A Prospective Cohort Study

In the study they demonstrate that children treated with either risperidone or quetiapine have a high risk of becoming overweight or obese over the initial 12-month treatment period. This is an important consideration for treatment options and metabolic monitoring should occur throughout treatment.
