Applying for residency

UBC has many residency training programs accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

Applications for Postgraduate Medical Education in Canada are coordinated nationally by the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS). If you are an international medical graduate it is important to note there may be additional requirements, including a Return of Service condition. For more information on this and the important examination dates, visit IMG-BC.

UBC encourages all residents to take the MCCQE Part I prior to beginning residency, or to take it as soon as possible. The MCCQE-I is a one-day, computer-based test that assesses the competence of candidates who have obtained their medical degree, for entry into supervised clinical practice in postgraduate training programs.
