Orthopaedic Surgery PYOS Recap

The Orthopaedic Surgery residents recently got together for a Plan Your Own Social! Here is what they had to say:

“Our event was an annual retreat for the UBC Orthopaedics Residents. This included all the residents in our program, from R1 to R5. This year we hosted our retreat in Whistler, BC. It was a 3 day and 2 night event. There were activities and bonding exercises.

The event was a very big success as per feedback from the residents. It provided an opportunity for everyone to socialize and mingle in a non-academic setting. This is particularly important for the R1s who are new to the program, in an otherwise small surgical residency.

There were some logistical difficulties with coordinating rides up to Whistler. Next year, we may consider renting a bus for shuttling purposes to help mitigate this issue. I think constant communication and delegation was key to the success of planning this event.

All the residents were kept in the loop for the timing and plans for the weekend. The staff and faculty were supportive in our weekend for call protection as well.”
