Drs. Mitchell, Stanger, and Shuster with colleagues from the the department of Gastroenterology at UBC were published in the Canadian Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology for their article Repeat Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Fine-Needle Aspiration in Patients with Suspected Pancreatic Cancer: Diagnostic Yield and Associated Change in Access and Appropriate Care.

In their retrospective cohort study evaluating the yield of repeat endoscopic ultrasound guided fine-needle aspiration in determining a cytological diagnosis in patients who had undergone one previously for diagnosis of  suspected malignant pancreatic lesions with inconclusive cytopathology found that a substantial number of patients had a definitive diagnosis with a repeat fine-needle aspiration.
