Resident Awareness Week 2020 Recap

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Resident Awareness Week!

Resident Doctors of BC and a group of residents had the opportunity to visit the BC Legislature Building in Victoria for Resident Awareness Week 2020. On February 13, RDBC hosted a breakfast and invited MLAs from various ridings to attend and meet the future physicians of BC. There was a great turnout and residents had the chance to meet and chat with MLAs about the importance of their work, and residency in general.

Following the breakfast, we were invited to the Q&A period.

In the evening, we met for dinner with Ministry of Health officials. This second dinner of a series of Ministry and Resident engagement dinners allowed for follow-up conversation from the previous dinner. The room was full of residents and Ministry enjoying great food, as well as great conversation about the future of health care in BC.

The Ministry of Health also hosted a booth in the lobby of their building helping to spread awareness of residents!

Thank you to everyone who came out to Victoria for this busy day, as well as everyone who remained at home and helped us spread awareness in hospitals—whether by chatting with patients, or wearing our “Ask Me, I’m a Resident” buttons—as well as in the online sphere. We look forward to building up the importance of residents in the health care system of BC.
