MCCQE Part II Application

***Please read BOTH messages below regarding the application process for the MCCQE Part II. The first is a message from the Medical Council of Canada, and the second is a message from Resident Doctors of BC to clarify the instructions.

Application to the fall 2017 MCCQE Part II

Dear Colleague,

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) is pleased to provide the following information regarding the fall 2017 Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part II application process.

As was the case for the fall 2016 session, due to limited capacity, we anticipate that we will not be able to accommodate all candidates wishing to apply for the fall 2017 MCCQE Part II.

Two pre-application periods will be offered. Only PGY-2 candidates or those who are further in their training/careers at the time of the exam will be able to pre-apply.

One pre-application period will be available from Monday, April 24 to Tuesday, May 23, 2017, during which time eligible candidates interested in taking the fall 2017 MCCQE Part II must add their name to a pre-application list through their physiciansapply.ca account.

Following the closure of this pre-application period, we will proceed to a random selection of candidates who added their names to the list. The randomly selected candidates will be sent an invitation to apply. Not all selected candidates will receive an invitation at the same time.

The second pre-application period will be held as of mid-June, after the spring 2017 MCCQE Part I and MCCQE Part II results are released. Candidates receiving spring 2017 results and who are eligible at that time for pre-application will be sent communications through their physiciansapply.ca account.

Because we anticipate not being able to accommodate all PGY-2+ candidates in the fall session, candidates who will be in their PGY-1 year at the time of the exam will not be eligible to pre-apply for the fall session.

We will be sending a follow-up message to PGME administrators/managers and resident associations when the pre-application period opens on April 24, with a request to forward the information to residents.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send us an email at communications@mcc.ca. We will be updating our website in the next week with information on the application process.

A message from RDoC re: application to the Fall 2017 MCCQE Part II

The Medical Council of Canada has provided Resident Doctors of Canada (RDoC) with information about the upcoming Fall 2017 MCCQE Part II application process. The first of two pre-application periods for the examination will take place from Monday, April 24 to Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Full instructions for eligible candidates are available in the message from the MCC above. The second pre-application period will take place as of mid-June.

RDoC has since received clarification from the MCC on several items within their message. Residents interested in applying for the Fall 2017 sitting of the MCCQE Part II should take note of the following additional information:

Pre-application period

All residents who want to apply for the fall 2017 sitting must pre-apply during the April/May period UNLESS they have not yet received the results from their MCCQE Part I. If they have not received their MCCQE Part I results yet, they must wait to pre-apply in June during the second pre-application period.

The pre-application period is not first come, first serve. It is open the entire period for pre-applications.

Pre-applications can only happen through a candidate’s physiciansapply.ca account.

Signing up to receive email notifications about the opening of the pre-application period does not mean a candidate is on the pre-application list. They must still log onto their physiciansapply.ca account.

Main Application

A pool of candidates is drawn from the pre-applications submitted, and those candidates are invited to apply for the fall 2017 MCCQE Part II during the Main Application period. The period for applications is narrow, about a week and a half to two weeks, so candidates must ensure their applications are submitted in a timely fashion once they’ve received notification.

The MCC cannot accommodate all applicants.

Candidates who were not selected for application but have tentatively accepted a job offer conditional on the results of their MCCQE Part II must contact the MCC and complete a Special Consideration Request.

Otherwise, those not selected for application for the fall 2017 will have to wait until the pre-application period opens for the next sitting.
