Dr. Jesse Bittman – BMJ Postgraduate Medical Journal

Dr. Bittman and colleagues were published in the BMJ Postgraduate Medical Journal for their original article: Who to handover: a case–control study of a novel scoring system to prioritise handover of internal medicine inpatients. In the article they find the iHAND score had a moderate ability to predict overnight assessment needs and may help prioritize those needing overnight visits for handover.

Dr. Kathryn Darras – Top Research Paper

“Development and evaluation of a PGY-1 competency-based anatomy rotation for radiology residents” written by Dr. Kathryn Darras was announced as one of this year’s Royal College/JGME Top Resident Research papers and will be presented on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at ICRE 2017 in Quebec City, Canada.

Dr. Kristin DeGirolamo – Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute

Dr. DeGirolamo’s research into acute care surgery statistics was highlighted by VCHRI. Read about her work here.

Dr. Jesse Kancir – Doctors of BC ChangeMaker Award

Dr. Jesse Kancir received the 2017 Doctors of BC ChangeMaker Award on Saturday, June 3, 2017, in Vancouver at the Doctors of BC annual general meeting. The Doctors of BC awards are presented to honour outstanding physicians. The award was presented to Dr. Kancir in recognition of his involvement and work with an array of medical advocacy organizations.

Dr. Alison Lee – BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute 2017 Outstanding Achievements by a Resident.

Dr. Lee is this year’s recipient of the BCCH Research Institute Outstanding Achievement by a Resident.

This award recognizes the outstanding achievement of a Resident whose scholarly activity, industry and commitment to the research endeavour are an example to other trainees and who has contributed to advances in child, youth or women’s health.

NIH/NMA Travel Award – Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi

Dr. Boluwaji Ogunyemi received the NIH/National Medical Association (NMA) Travel Award to attend the 115th Annual Convention & Scientific Assembly held on July 29 to August 2, 2017, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Ogunyemi will have the opportunity to participate in the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) workshop on career development in academic medicine.
