Basic Clinical Year – RCH PYOS Recap

The residents in the Basic Clinical Year – RCH program recently had a Welcome Social, and here is what they had to say!

“The event was well received by all attendees. The group appreciated an opportunity to get to know one another across different years. The PGY-1 group felt the event was helpful to get to know PGY-2 residents from their speciality as well as others in an informal setting so that they could continue building this contact throughout the year. They felt it the event helped build connections that would last into the year so that they felt comfortable asking questions and asking for advice. The PGY-2 group felt that it was a nice opportunity to get to know the incoming year and pass on their wisdom. As well, they felt it was a great way to end the year with a celebration. I believe the fact that it was an event that was not coordinated by the admin (nor were they in attendance) made it easier to have a a laid back environment to relax and be themselves. The location in a home made it more intimate and resident did not feel rushed to leave as they may in a restaurant setting; though, depending on who hosts the event it may be difficult to have at someone’s home. Given the fairly large number of attendees, the space became a bit cramped. Making sure there are multiple locations for food & drinks as well as garbage cans/bags would be good to keep in mind for the future!

Nonetheless, I felt the event was enjoyed by all residents as well as the +1s as a social opportunity to get to know one another outside the workplace. I hope something like this can become a tradition for the RCH Intern Residents!
