Announcing the New RDBC Executive Director

Dear colleagues, staff, and friends of Resident Doctors of BC (RDBC),

After completing a thorough search and interview process, we are excited to announce Ms. Lona Cunningham as RDBC’s new Executive Director. The Board has unanimously accepted the search committee’s recommendation and we are delighted to have Lona join RDBC as the new Executive Director starting August 8, 2022.

Lona brings an extensive and dynamic skillset, with more than 15 years of leadership experience in the public healthcare sector. Most recently, she served as the Director of Acute Services at Lions Gate Hospital, guiding and managing services such as Medicine, Rehab, Allied Health, and Ambulatory Care through all 3 years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the course of her career, Lona has served in various leadership roles within Vancouver Coastal Health, Provincial Health Services Authority, and Providence Health Care, successfully managing budgets of over $51 million while leading innovation and successfully developing and executing strategic plans. Lona also brings with her a professional, warm and empathetic style and firsthand experience in the provision of healthcare, having begun her career as a social worker before becoming a nurse and then a healthcare administrator. With Lona’s extensive experience in and ability to navigate through the BC healthcare sector, she is a perfect fit to carry our organization to new heights.

We are confident that Lona will work hard to further the interests of our members, and work closely with resident doctors and stakeholders alike to ensure our association’s long term success.

Please join me in welcoming Lona Cunningham into the role of Executive Director of Resident Doctors of BC.

With excitement,

Devon Mitchell, MD
