Doctors of BC Resident Disability Coverage – deadline approaching

Deadline is approaching: As a reminder new residents have until September 30, 2016 to apply for Doctors of BC Resident Disability Coverage without having to provide proof of good health. Residents in all years have until September 30 each year to enroll in the plan, increase coverage and/or add optional Riders without proof of good health. A 12-month pre-existing conditions limitation will apply to coverage approved without proof of good health.

If you have Doctors of BC Resident Disability coverage of at least $2,000/month for *12 months prior to starting practice, you will be eligible for the government-funded Physicians’ Disability Insurance (PDI) Plan when you begin practice in BC without proof of good health (provided you apply within 90 days of completion of residency).

*If you have Doctors of BC Resident Disability coverage with a start date before July 1 2014, different rules apply.

Details of the plan are available in the member’s section of the Doctors of BC website https://www.doctorsofbc.ca/member-area/insurance/life-disability-accident-illness/residents

Submit your completed application form (without proof of good health) now via email, fax or mail before September 30, 2016.
