Kilometrage – when on home call and called back or provide call to multiple sites on the same night; you are entitled to kilometer reimbursement or taxi (Specifically taxi not ridesharing) to and from site.
Lead pay is based on the number of FTEs (full time equivalents) for whom you fulfill lead duties. Lead pay is provided monthly based on what the program reports to PGME and payroll. If there is a discrepancy, please contact RDBC for support.
The Professional Expense Benefit (PEB) is paid at the conclusion of each academic year and is only provided once per program year. For example should you take a parental leave part way through R1, you would not receive the R1 until the conclusion of the Academic year you complete R1.
The Training Stipend is paid at the conclusion of the Academic year with the same stipulation of completion as the PEB. This stipend is to reflect the additional training done annually that is outside of salaried hours.
It is not a regular expectation that training be completed outside of salaried hours but understand that occasionally formal training may be subject to trainer availability. This burden is greater at the start of residency and reduces as you move towards completion, but the annual stipend is the spread throughout training. Should you find an increasing burden of mandatory training outside of salaried hours please contact RDBC.
Educational Resource Stipend – New for the 2025 contract residents now receive funding separate and in addition to any funding their program provides. These funds support additional professional development activities such as exam preparation. These funds are paid automatically at the conclusion of the academic year in years you complete a residency level.
You do not need to submit any documents to get the PEB, the educational resource stipend, or the training stipend. All will be paid out on the same paycheque as your regular salary and call at the end of the academic year. They may all get paid out at the same time or around the same time.
